A Control4 system is priced around the home and the job it needs to do. Controlling a television and a few lights is a different project from coordinating audio, shades, lighting and climate throughout a house. A useful budget starts with the scope, not a package name.
At Out of Sight Home Technologies, we establish that scope during the in-home design consultation. We do not publish package prices. Here is what to work through before comparing proposals.
Start with the rooms and routines
List the rooms you want to control and what should happen in each one. Does the kitchen need music and lighting scenes? Should a movie scene also close shades? Is remote access important while you are away? These choices determine the equipment, interfaces and programming the proposal needs to include.
Separate what you need on day one from what can come later. Planning cable routes for a future room can be worthwhile even if its speakers or shades are not part of the first installation.
Wiring and network conditions matter
New construction gives an installer access before the walls close. A finished home may require a different cable route, selective access or compatible wireless equipment. A site visit helps establish what is practical.
The network deserves its own line in the conversation. Access points, switches and cabling support the connected equipment. Ask whether the proposal includes this infrastructure or assumes the existing network is suitable.
Equipment is only part of the proposal
Compare the scope of programming, installation, calibration and homeowner training alongside the equipment list. Ask who creates the scenes, labels the controls and checks that the room behaves as intended. Two proposals with similar hardware can include quite different work.
Also ask which existing devices can stay. Compatibility should be checked against the exact model, rather than assumed because a product is described as smart.
Include recurring services in the decision
Ask for applicable software subscriptions to be identified separately from installation and future service visits. Read our Control4 subscription guide before assuming an older owner's experience applies to a new system.
Bring a short brief to the consultation
Bring a floor plan if you have one, a list of equipment you want to keep, your construction schedule and the routines you would like to simplify. That gives us a starting point for a proposal specific to your house.
