Choosing between Control4, Savant and Crestron should begin with the house and the proposed installation. A brand comparison cannot tell you whether your exact lighting, shades, audio and climate equipment will work together in the way you expect.

Give each installer the same brief
List the rooms, devices you want to keep and routines you want to simplify. Ask each installer to identify compatible models and any equipment that needs replacement. A general promise that a platform integrates with everything is not specific enough for a proposal.
Include the construction schedule, desired controls and any remote-access requirements. These details make the responses easier to compare.
Try the controls your family will use
Ask for a demonstration of everyday actions: starting a movie, selecting music in one room and turning the house down at bedtime. Look at the proposed keypads, remotes and app, rather than choosing from a promotional video alone.
Ask how a guest operates a room and what happens when someone wants to change a scene. Ease of use depends on the programming and the controls selected for your house.
Compare ownership as well as installation
Ask who holds the homeowner account, what documentation you receive, how future changes are handled and which software services apply. Request current renewal terms and a description of what ongoing assistance includes.
For Control4, read our subscription guide. For the other proposed systems, ask the installer to provide the corresponding current manufacturer terms. Do not assume one platform's subscription model applies to another.
Ask what happens when something stops working
Discuss internet outages, network failures and loss of power separately. Ask which functions remain local and which depend on external services. Have the installer describe the behavior of the equipment in your proposal, not just the platform in general.
Choose a complete plan
The useful comparison is the proposed experience, verified compatibility, installation scope and relationship with the installer. Brand preference is one part of that decision.
